THE STORY BEHIND
Sólja is created through knitting, a craft deeply rooted in everyday life in the Faroe Islands. Each piece is made slowly and with care by local women, often in traditional “Bindiklubb” knitting groups where friends meet, talk, and create together. Work may continue while overlooking the Atlantic Ocean or moving between islands, carried through fresh air, changing weather, and calm natural surroundings, and in quieter moments it is often worked on outdoors or in peaceful places close to nature.

With experience, many create almost without looking, guided by rhythm and memory, and each piece carries this calm pace of making, giving it a subtle sense of place and individuality shaped by time, care, and craft.
